Saturday saw our Junior Captain, Scott Ridley, capture the Roger Knight Trophy.  An excellent score of 67 gave him a win by the slimmest of margins over Paul Callaghan.  Paul’s 67 meant he lost out on the back 6, but had the consolation of winning the PGA National Pro-Am qualifier and will now partner club professional, Daniel Clee, in the Midland Qualier at Little Aston GC in July.  This is the event Dan & Mark Harrison won in qualifying for the National Finals in Las Vegas last year.

The continuing April showers took their toll on Evesham Seniors’ first internal competition of the season, the Ray Till Tankards, held on Wednesday 18^th April.  A good field set out in teams of two, seeking a tankard each for the winners.  The format used is an interesting one in that the teams effectively play the course rather than each other, scoring each hole as plus one for a birdie or better, zero for par and minus one for worse than par. Thus, even a ‘hole in one’ is worth only one point – scant reward perhaps but, equally, the worst ‘disaster hole’ only costs one point!  The early starters had the best of the weather, with several tail-enders making their bedraggled way off the course for an early bath after a downpour mixed with hail.  The results: 1^st Jerry Cain, the Club Secretary, and his playing partner, John Smith; 2^nd Michael Morris/Ian Wood; 3^rd Derek Stroud/Alan Higginson.  All 3 teams finished with +2, the final order being decided on count-back.

Congratulations to young Ollie Knight who shot a Net 66 in difficult conditions to win the Rotary Cup beating another one of Evesham’s promising youngsters Lewis Ridley who finished one shot behind with a 67. One of Evesham’s promising Old Timers Merv Nedic finished 3rd with 71

In a Droitwich League match played at Evesham the Ladies Beat Ombersley Ladies 4/5 to 1/2.

Evesham were also winners in a friendly mixed match against Droitwich played at Evesham

The Ladies Winter Eclectic was won by Ruth Masters.

Natasha Winter, one of our junior members, came first in the Girls’ under 18 Competition played at Olton last week. This was an improvement on the 3rd place she got at Droitwich the previous week. Well done Natasha! Can you beat Mum?!

Playing against 26 other clubs in a high quality field which included ex European Tour Players and a Curtis Cup Player off plus 4  Evesham were victorious in a Midland PGA event held at Blackwell Golf Club. The team of Pro Ryan Cleary, Geoff Insall, Barry Saggers and Steve  Chiffins  got off to a poor start dropping three shots on the first two holes but then with all four of the players contributing to a plethora of birdies the team finished 13 under par, 5 shots clear of the second place team.

 Wednesday 11^th April saw Evesham Seniors’ second interclub match, which was played at home against near neighbours, the Vale. Unlike the previous week the weather was sunshine all the way, which a member of the Vale claimed was imported from the Vale especially for the day.  Evesham Seniors’ Captain, Mike Abraham, and his playing partner, Alan Minton, led the way with a convincing 4&3 win, with Mike Whiteford/Richard Steel and Peter Gilbert/John Smith also winning by the same margin. The overall result after a thoroughly enjoyable day was an honourable draw with 3½ matches each.
