2009 JUNIOR RESULTS
WORCS U18 MATCHPLAY : SUN 8TH NOVEMBER : GAUDET LUCE
Two of Evesham's talented juniors reached the last 16 of the Worcestershire Under 18s Matchplay tournament. Jake Payne and Ryan Cleary had qualified earlier at a strokeplay event at Fulford Heath and this weekend took part in the knockout stage at Gaudet Luce golf club, playing for the John Fraser Cup. Cleary won his first match but then went out to Kristian Allen from North Worcestershire in the quarter final. Allen then won through to the final where he met Payne. After 6 holes, a number of birdies had put Allen 3 up but Payne fought back and won the match on the 18th. An excellent result that augurs well for the Evesham pair for next season. Both have progressed extremely well this year, with Jake's handicap down to 3 and Ryan down to 4, and both are capable of even better things.

MATCH : JUNIORS v MEN : 4TH OCTOBER

On Sunday, the Junior Boys rounded off their season with a friendly match against the Men's Section. Led by their Captain, Ryan Cleary, the boys gave a really good account of themselves. Playing in pairs, it was a great opportunity for them to practice their match play skills and it was great to see the range of ages taking part. The youngest, Miles Stewart, is only 6 years old but, playing with Dan Bailey, he managed to give his men opponents a scare with a run of net pars and birdies on the last five holes. The result was unimportant and both teams enjoyed a light meal and a glass of coke together afterwards. Junior Organiser, Colin Cleary, said “I am absolutely delighted with the progress of our junior section this year and have high hopes that we can take them to an even higher level next year. The youngsters are the future of the game and of the club and I am proud of the fact that Evesham Golf Club is so supportive of them.”

Oliver Farrell is the new Evesham Golf Club Junior Champion

Evesham Golf Club Junior Championship was held last Sunday. Due to the recent heavy rainfall, the competition was played over 18 holes on the shorter blue course which still provided a stiff challenge for the young golfers.

The new Junior Club Champion is Oliver Farrell who shot a magnificent gross 75 beating last years champion Jake Payne by two shots. Oliver also picked up the trophy for best gross in the under 14 years category and won the nearest the pin competition.

Best net score came from Junior Vice Captain Ryan Cleary with a score of 70 beating off the challenge from the Junior Captain Ed Parn who carded a 75.

Longest Drive competition was won by Jake Payne.

In the 9 hole competition, Dan Bailey carded a commendable 36 to win from Oliver Pike.

Mens Captain Jerry Cain presented the prizes and commented on the high standard of golf currently being played by the Evesham Juniors. Next up for the Juniors is the annual match against the Men in October where they will be seeking revenge for the narrow defeat inflicted on them last year.
