Out of the dark and dismal covid days a new dawn is rising over the links at Fladbury, and your much missed correspondent awakes from their cryogenically induced break. Good bye ‘Mutterings from the patio’ and welcome to Grouches from the Gazebo. But what is this I say gone are the Axminster paced greens and the ball losing brambles to be replaced by the slickest of surfaces and magnificently manicured lawns. Have I awoken in a parallel world or is this resplendent resource our new haven of opportunity. With the Winter League participants shortly to pack away their capes and body warmers, the prospect of a bright and splendid summer awaits all as we gallop towards the monthly medal disasters and the superbly crafted stableford scores. New Captains are elected and ready to serve their willing subjects, whilst Yosser Hughes was last seen weeping in the newly cleared graveyard of balls to the left of the 3rd wondering how he is to maintain his previously flourishing lost ball empire.
So welcome one and all to the season where many questions and conundrums will be answered. Will we see the Silver Fox and TH finally announce their engagement ? Will our honourable Club treasurer finally achieve his ambition to dam the River Avon with Pro-V1’s? Will Morrow and the Vice’s swimming lessons continue to attract more willing participants.? Will the Al Fayed of Pro-Shop owners continue to dress the mesmerised membership in ever more shades of puse and fluorescent shorts ? Will our Honourable Club Secretary finally achieve his goal of play mate of the month in his sprayed on shorts? We shall see, dear member and as they say watch this space for more grumblings from the gazebo.
