The golfing year is upon us and it is time to think about those knockout competitions you would like to take part in, whether as singles or pairs.
As in previous years, there are six knockout trophies of varying formats to compete for:
The Byrd Cup
If singles knockout golf is your favourite, then this is the trophy for you. The Byrd Cup is an 18 hole, men’s singles competition with a maximum playing handicap allowance of 18 and is played off the white tees. Full Handicap Allowance. Entrance fee is £5 per person.
The Canada Cups
Probably the most sought after and competitive of all of the knockout competitions, teams are carefully selected and rivalries renewed. This is an 18 holes better ball handicap pairs competition. Maximum playing handicap is 24. Handicap allowance is 90% of the difference. Played off the white tees. Entrance fee is £10 per pair.
The Frogmore Trophy
The premier singles knockout competition of the season. This provides the lower handicap golfer the chance to test their skills in an 18 hole scratch singles knockout event, played off the White tees. Entrance fee is £5.00 per player.
The Rabbits Cup
A competition for the higher handicap players. This is an 18 hole singles match play event with a MINIMUM playing handicap of 19. Full handicap allowance played off the white tees. Entrance fee is £5 per person.
The Ward Becker Trophy
Played in foursomes match play format with Maximum Playing Handicap 24 (50% Combined Handicap Difference). This is a true test of friendship as you are relying on your partner being straight and true. Entrance fee is £10.00 per pair.
The Veterans Cup
This is a competition exclusively for our members aged 65 and over on 1st April 2023. It is a singles match play event with a maximum handicap of 24. Full handicap difference. Entrance fee is £5 per person.
Competition entry will open on FRIDAY 10th MARCH and will close on SATURDAY 1st APRIL.
Sign up should be made via your Club V1 or HowDidIdo apps. However, for those who are unable to access these, there will be sign-up sheets posted in the locker room from Tuesday 14th March.
The draws will be made shortly after 1st April and dates for completion of each round set.
Payment should be made in cash in the box located in the Professional Shop. Please mark the envelope provided with your name, the competition to be entered and the amount paid. All payments should be made PRIOR to the 1st round completion date as failure to do so may result in disqualification.
By entering a knockout competition you are agreeing to abide by the Men’s Section Knockout Competition Rules which will be posted in the Men’s locker room and on the club website (Knockout Competition Rules 2023). Please familiarise yourself with them, particularly regarding “Round Completion Dates”, as NO extensions will be granted except on the approval of the Men’s Section Committee and then only on extreme compassionate grounds.
